VOV.VN - Vietnamese permanent Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh, while attending the ongoing 77th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, met with US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, to discuss cooperation between the two countries.
Minh expressed his delight at the progress made in the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership over the past time and suggested that the two sides further strengthen exchanges and dialogue at all levels and promote cooperation in all fields in order to raise bilateral relations to new heights.
He highly appreciated and expected that the US would continue to support Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of war, digital transformation, clean energy transformation, and climate change response.
For her part, Sherman shared Minh’s views about the positive development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership and expressed her pleasure at the resumption of contact and delegation exchanges activities between the two sides in the post-pandemic period.
She praised the Vietnamese Government for its efforts to step up digital transformation and clean energy transformation, as well as to engage in negotiations of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework Initiative for Prosperity (IPEF) in recent times. She reaffirmed the US side’s commitment to supporting Vietnam in responding to climate change and overcoming war consequences.
Both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern.
While staying in the US, Deputy PM Pham Binh Minh also met with Cindy McCain, US ambassador to the United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture.
Minh thanked Cindy McCain and her late husband John McCain, for their efforts to support Vietnam – US cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war, helping to promote reconciliation, heal war wounds and build trust between the two countries, as well as to open up more opportunities for cooperation in other fields.
Cindy McCain highly appreciated the achievements Vietnam has recorded in agricultural development, climate change response and water security in the Mekong Delta and wished that the country share its development experience with the international community.
She said she is looking forward to visiting Vietnam again.
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh is leading a Vietnamese delegation to the high-level general debate of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the United States, from September 21-25.
