Top Party leader’s visit results grab Chinese headlines

VOV.VN - Major Chinese media agencies highlighted Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s visit to China from October 30 to November 1, which they said has reaped great success, contributing to further promoting the Vietnam-China relations.

State-owned Xinhua News Agency reported Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping honoured Vietnamese Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong with China’s Friendship Medal, showing China’s affection for the Vietnamese leader. At the ceremony, Xi described Trong as a steadfast leader who has outlined orientations for promoting the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership.

China Daily reported China and Vietnam agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation, consolidate trust and resolve disagreements in order to bring their comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership in a new era to new heights.

Meanwhile, Global Times on November 1 ran an article, saying the Vietnamese Party General Secretary’s China visit bore fruit following the signing of 13 cooperation documents in various fields, from cooperation between the two Parties to cooperation in economy, trade, environmental protection, culture, tourism, judiciary and customs.

Global Times quoted Sun Xiaoying, a research fellow at the Guangxi Academy of Social Sciences, saying one focus for Trong’s visit is trade and economic cooperation, as China’s huge market provides tremendous opportunities for Vietnamese industries, especially for agricultural and fishery products.

China has been Vietnam's largest trading partner for many consecutive years and Vietnam remains China's largest trading partner among the ASEAN members. Vietnam is not only a key member of ASEAN but also an important economy that participates in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), which has been greatly promoted by China and other key economies in the Asia-Pacific region.

Global Times also quoted Xu Liping, director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, saying in recent years Vietnam has played a more important role in ASEAN, and strengthening the China - Vietnam relations will not only benefit the two peoples, but also help spur economic recovery in Asia.

Experts believe both Vietnam and China will handle their pending problems peacefully in the interests of their people and for regional peace and prosperity, according to Global Times.
