Top leader urges concrete action to advance Vietnam – Poland strategic partnership

VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam has called on Vietnam and Poland to translate their newly established Strategic Partnership into substantive cooperation, with priorities including trade, investment, science and technology, and defence.

The new partnership framework offers fresh momentum for the two countries to deepen ties built on more than 75 years of friendship and political trust, he said during a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Hanoi on October 26.

Welcoming the Polish Prime Minister’s official visit, the Vietnamese leader described it as an important milestone opening a new phase in bilateral relations. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s appreciation for Poland’s valuable support during its struggle for national defence and nation-building, and stressed that Vietnam attaches great importance to Poland as a traditional and trusted friend and a key partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

Strategic Partnership opens up new avenues for cooperation

Welcoming the outcomes of talks between Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and his Polish counterpart, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam highlighted the significance of upgrading bilateral ties to a Strategic Partnership. He called on both sides to implement the agreements reached and strengthen political trust through regular exchanges at all levels and across Party, State, Government and parliamentary channels.

Economic cooperation is a key priority. He urged both countries to seize opportunities to raise bilateral trade to US$6 billion at an early date in a balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial manner. He also encouraged Poland to become a leading investor in Vietnam among Central and Eastern European countries, with opportunities in manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, environmental protection, transport, logistics and modern infrastructure.

The top Vietnamese leader proposed that the two countries should also expand cooperation in seaports, maritime logistics, shipbuilding, marine science and environmental protection, while strengthening maritime training and exchanging experience in maritime economic governance.

He called for more practical cooperation in defence and security, including exploring opportunities in the defence industry in line with each country’s needs and policies. He also identified science, technology and innovation as priority areas, particularly artificial intelligence, digital technology, cybersecurity and biotechnology. Further cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical research and education would help develop human resources and support the countries’ respective development goals.

Prime Minister Tusk, for his part, expressed strong agreement with his host’s proposals and pledged close coordination with Vietnam to implement the agreements reached during his visit. He highlighted economic and trade ties, science and technology, defence and security, industry, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, tourism and artificial intelligence as areas with potential for stronger cooperation.

People-to-people ties reinforce longstanding friendship

Both leaders welcomed the resumption of direct flights between the two countries by Poland’s LOT Polish Airlines, describing the connection as an important step towards expanding people-to-people exchanges, tourism, trade and investment.

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam called on both sides to facilitate travel, residence, study and work for Vietnamese people in Poland and Polish people in Vietnam, enabling them to settle into local life and contribute to their host societies. He also encouraged greater cooperation in education, culture and sports, particularly to help younger generations deepen their understanding of each other.

Prime Minister Tusk praised the Vietnamese community in Poland for its hard work and contributions to the country’s socio-economic development, describing it as an important bridge between the two peoples. He also thanked Vietnam for building and maintaining a memorial to Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, known as Kazik, whose work contributed to preserving cultural heritage in Hue, My Son and Hoi An.

The two sides also acknowledged efforts to promote cooperation between localities in Vietnam and Poland, helping to strengthen exchanges and mutual understanding.

Both leaders expressed confidence that Vietnam – Poland longstanding friendship, high political trust and newly established Strategic Partnership would drive deeper cooperation, deliver tangible benefits to both peoples and contribute to peace, stability and development in their respective regions and beyond.
