VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his spouse will pay a State visit to Singapore and attend the Shangri-La Dialogue from May 29 to 31, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The invitation has been extended by Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and his spouse, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press communique.
While in Singapore, the Vietnamese leader will attend the Shangri-La Dialogue at the invitation of Bastian Giegerich, Director-General and Chief Executive of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS). He is expected to deliver a keynoter speech at the forum on May 29.
Relations between Vietnam and Singapore are widely regarded as one of the most dynamic and effective partnerships in Southeast Asia. The two countries established diplomatic ties in 1973 and have continuously strengthened political trust through high-level visits, bilateral dialogue mechanisms, and close coordination within Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as other international forums.
Economic cooperation remains a key pillar of Vietnam–Singapore relations. Singapore has consistently ranked among the largest foreign investors in Vietnam, with major projects spanning industrial development, urban infrastructure, logistics, and high technology. The Vietnam–Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIPs) are widely viewed as a symbol of successful bilateral cooperation.
In addition, both countries are expanding collaboration in emerging sectors such as digital transformation, green economy initiatives, renewable energy, artificial intelligence, and sustainable supply chain development.
Beyond economic ties, Vietnam and Singapore have also strengthened cooperation in education, defence, security, people-to-people exchanges, and human resource development. The two sides regularly coordinate on regional and international issues, with a shared commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development across the Asia-Pacific region.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is regarded as Asia’s premier defence and security forum, bringing together political leaders, defence ministers, military officials, and strategic experts from across the world to discuss regional and global security challenges.
