Top leader suggests enhancing Vietnam-China judicial cooperation

Party General Secretary and State President To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on October 18 for visiting President and Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of China Zhang Jun.

Lam affirmed that Vietnam always considers strengthening the friendship and cooperation with China a strategic choice and a top priority in its overall foreign policy.

He highlighted the importance of consolidating and promoting the bilateral relationship, making it more stable and healthier, to the success of both nations as well as to peace, stability, and development in the region and the world. After the visits by high-ranking leaders of the two Parties and States, directions for the cooperation have been outlined, contributing to the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance, according to the top leader.

Stressing the time-honoured relations between the two countries across spheres, Lam said Zhang’s visit is expected to help strengthen the bilateral ties, especially in judicial affairs.

He lauded the outcomes of the two court systems' collaboration over the past time, as well as cooperation orientations sketched out during talks between their chief justices during this visit.

He suggested the two sides enhance and improve the quality of collaboration, especially between the localities sharing the border.

The top leader emphasised the need to foster the judicial cooperation, making it an important pillar of the Vietnam-China ties, and ensure the Party leadership is absolute, direct, and comprehensive in all activities, including judicial affairs.

For his part, Zhang pledged to well implement directions and guidelines of the two countries’ high-ranking leaders.

He informed the host leader about outcomes of his talks with Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court of Vietnam Le Minh Tri, saying his visit aims to seek consensus on measures to effectively and practically realise such directions, as well as the joint statement issued on the occasion of the recent Vietnam visit by Premier Li Qiang, covering judicial cooperation.

The two courts will continue working on suitable cooperation orientations, while stepping up experience sharing, he said.
