Swiss President and his spouse to pay official visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - President of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin and his spouse will pay an official visit to Vietnam from October 17-18, 2026, according to an announcement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on October 15.
The visit will be made at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam To Lam and his spouse.
Relations between Vietnam and Switzerland have seen positive development. In January 2025, the two nations established a Comprehensive Partnership, with 2026 marking the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties.
The two countries regularly maintain high-level delegation exchanges across various levels, alongside strong parliamentary ties. Switzerland serves as an important trade and investment partner for Vietnam in Europe, with bilateral trade turnover reaching US$1 billion in 2025 and Switzerland ranking sixth among European direct investors in Vietnam.
Cooperation across education, training, labor, science, technology, innovation, and other fields continues to progress well.
During the visit, the Swiss President is scheduled to hold talks with General Secretary and President To Lam, and meet with Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man, in addition to other key activities.
