Russian Deputy PM Nikolayevich Chernyshenko visits Vietnam
VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha, Chair of the Vietnam Subcommittee in the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee for Economic, Trade, and Scientific-Technological Cooperation, held a meeting with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Nikolayevich Chernyshenko, Chair of the Russian Subcommittee, in Hanoi on January 13.
During the meeting, Ha emphasized that Vietnam consistently pursues an independent and self-reliant foreign policy, fostering multilateralization and diversification of international relations.
Vietnam highly values its relationship with the Russian Federation and wishes to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, he said.
He urged both sides to engage in open and substantive discussions to devise solutions for promoting cooperation and resolving obstacles in bilateral cooperation.
Both deputy PMs reviewed the results of bilateral cooperation since the 25th session of the Vietnam-Russia Intergovernmental Committee in September 2024, noting that two-way trade turnover between the two countries reached US$4.1 billion in January – November 2024, marking a 27.4% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
Both parties explored potential projects in industries such as mechanical engineering, metallurgy, chemicals, mineral processing, renewable energy equipment production, and transportation. Energy cooperation is expanding into promising areas, including gas-fired power plant construction, LNG supply, renewable energy infrastructure, fuel production, and the modernization of Vietnam’s energy facilities.
The two sides agreed on specific measures to enhance bilateral cooperation in agriculture, information and communication, science, education, culture, and sports. They also emphasized the need to boost tourism and people-to-people exchanges, promote the teaching of Vietnamese and Russian languages, maintain scholarships for Vietnamese students, and attracting Russian students to study in Vietnam.
Facilitating visa issuance for Vietnamese workers and tourists in Russia was also discussed at the meeting.
However, both sides acknowledged that economic and trade cooperation has yet to reach its full potential, given the excellent political and diplomatic relations. They urged ministries and agencies from both countries to intensify efforts in expanding the cooperation framework, removing trade barriers, and facilitating investment projects for businesses.
Ha expressed his belief that in 2025 Vietnam-Russia cooperation would see robust growth across all sectors through mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Committee and subcommittees and task forces.
