Promoting Vietnam – UK economic - trade cooperation
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Nguyen Hoang Long on January 18 met with Graham Stuart, newly appointed Trade Envoy of Prime Minister Boris Johnson to Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, to exchange measures to bolster economic-trade ties between Vietnam and the UK.
During their meeting in London, Ambassador Long congratulated Stuart on his appointment and noted that the Vietnam-UK relations are at their best stage of development. He said the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) is opening up new opportunities, bringing practical benefits to businesses and people of the two countries.
The Ambassador briefed his host on bilateral trade cooperation, saying despite the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak the two-way trade turnover in 2021 reached US$6.6 billion, an increase of more than 17% compared to the previous year. He expressed his belief that trade exchanges between Vietnam and the UK will continue to be strongly promoted in the near future.
Vietnam supports the UK’s joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Long assured his host.
MP Stuart highly appreciated Vietnam’s achievements and potential for economic development. He showed his interest in Vietnam’s trade and investment promotion activities to create opportunities for Vietnamese goods and services to enter the UK market.
The two sides discussed and agreed on cooperation priorities to be realized in the coming years in such fields as education, finance, renewable energy and green transition.
Ambassador Long proposed that the Trade Envoy help connect Vietnam with localities and economic regions of the UK to boost cooperation opportunities between businesses and localities of the two countries.
He expected that the MP, with a wealth of experience in the fields of export and investment, would make a positive contribution to strengthening bilateral relations, especially in effective implementation of the UKVFTA.
