President Luong Cuong commends strong Vietnam - Chile partnership
VOV.VN - President Luong Cuong spoke highly of the positive development of Vietnam – Chile Comprehensive Partnership, during his reception for outgoing Chilean Ambassador to Vietnam Sergio Narea Guzman, in Hanoi on July 11.

President Cuong congratulated Ambassador Guzman on the successful completion of his mission in Vietnam, noting his proactive efforts in fostering high-level visits, enhancing bilateral exchanges, and advancing practical cooperation between the two countries.
He emphasised that Vietnam greatly values its long-standing traditional friendship with Chile, founded by President Ho Chi Minh and late President Salvador Allende. Over the past five decades, this relationship has been continuously nurtured and strengthened by successive generations of leaders and citizens from both nations.
The President highlighted the substantial progress in bilateral ties since the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership nearly two decades ago. He noted the growing convergence of views on regional and international matters and mutual support at multilateral forums, especially within the United Nations framework.
Political and diplomatic cooperation has grown increasingly close across all channels. On the economic front, President Cuong welcomed the upward trend in bilateral trade, which surpassed US$1.7 billion in 2024, making Chile Vietnam’s fourth largest trading partner in Latin America. Vietnam also remains Chile’s top trading partner within ASEAN.
Despite this progress, President Cuong observed that current trade volumes still fall short of the two countries’ full potential. He called for greater efforts from both sides to enhance economic cooperation to match the strength of their political relationship.
On this occasion, the President conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to Chilean President Gabriel Boric and extended an invitation to him to visit Vietnam at a mutually convenient time.
President Cuong also expressed confidence that Ambassador Guzmán, with his strong affection for Vietnam, would continue to serve as a bridge between the two peoples and contribute to the enduring friendship between the two countries in any future capacity.
Ambassador Guzman, for his part, expressed his appreciation for the support received throughout his term and reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing Vietnam–Chile cooperation. He highlighted achievements in multiple areas, including politics, economy, culture, agriculture, defence, security, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Ambassador praised Vietnam’s historic struggle for national liberation and its impressive socio-economic development, affirming Chile’s commitment to continued collaboration with Vietnam at international and multilateral forums to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development worldwide.
The Ambassador pledged to remain an advocate for the Vietnam–Chile relationship and to contribute his knowledge and goodwill to its further development in the years ahead.
