President Ho Chi Minh’s 135th birth anniversary celebrated in France
VOV.VN - The Vietnamese Embassy in France, in coordination with the authorities of Sainte-Adresse, held a wreath-laying ceremony on May 16 to commemorate President Ho Chi Minh on his 135th birth anniversary at the memorial plaque named after him in the city.

In his remarks at the event, Ambassador Dinh Toan Thang highlighted President Ho’s revolutionary life, emphasising that the President dedicated his entire life to the nation and the people, and he is a shining symbol of the spirit and courage of the Vietnamese people.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) honoured him as a “Hero of National Liberation and a Great Man of Culture,” he said.
Sainte-Adresse is a place closely linked to President Ho’s journey for national salvation. It holds important memories for the Vietnamese people and for all those around the world who cherish peace and independence.
“President Ho Chi Minh laid the first important foundation for the relationship between the two countries. He taught us the significance of the promising friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and France. In the current turbulent international context, today’s commemoration reminds us of the precious values of peace and friendship,” the Ambassador said.
Luc Lefevre, deputy mayor of Sainte-Adresse, affirmed the significance of the president’s 135th birth anniversary, as well as the time he lived and worked in the city in 1911. The commemoration, he said, is of greater significance as Vietnam recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification, marking the end of a 30-year arduous war.
“Vietnam has become a developing country with more than 100 million citizens. It is a major power in Southeast Asia and an influential player on the global stage. On this occasion, we celebrate the growing relationship between France and Vietnam, that have overcome a complex shared history to pursue lasting and meaningful values,” said the politician.
To honour President Ho’s journey in France, the authorities of Sainte-Adresse decided to install a memorial plaque bearing his name in the Masquelier compound, in front of the house where he once lived, now used as a venue for community activities.
The plaque bears an inscription in both French and Vietnamese:
“From 1911–1912, President Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in the city of Sainte-Adresse, in the Masquelier compound, during his long journey for the future of Vietnam.”
The plaque was inaugurated by the city of Sainte-Adresse on October 6, 2024, with the attendance of Party General Secretary To Lam and a high-level Vietnamese delegation during their official visit to France.
