Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk visits Hoi An Ancient Town in Da Nang

VOV.VN - Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and a high-ranking Polish delegation visited Hoi An Ancient Town in the central city of Da Nang on the morning of October 24, as part of his official visit to Vietnam from October 24 to 26.

Nguyen Thi Anh Thi, Vice Chairwoman of the Da Nang municipal People's Committee, along with local representatives, greeted Prime Minister Donald Tusk and his delegation upon their arrival at Hoi An Ancient Town and presented them with flowers.

During the visit, Prime Minister Donald Tusk laid flowers and paid tribute at the monument to Polish architect Kazimierz Kwiatkowski, affectionately called Kazik by locals. During his lifetime, Kwiatkowski made significant contributions to preserving and promoting the heritage values of Hoi An Ancient Town, the My Son Sanctuary, and the Hue Monuments Complex, helping secure UNESCO World Heritage recognition for Hoi An and My Son.

He was also the first person to draw attention to the unique value of Hoi An Ancient Town. The process of researching and compiling the dossier for UNESCO recognition lasted nearly 20 years; despite numerous challenges, he never wavered. On December 4, 1999, Hoi An Ancient Town was officially inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The great contributions of the late architect Kwiatkowski to preserving and promoting Vietnam's cultural heritage have become a symbol of friendship and close ties between Vietnam and Poland.

Following the tribute, PM Donald Tusk and his delegation walked along the ancient streets, visited several cultural and historical relics, and enjoyed artistic performances.

In a cordial atmosphere, many residents and tourists gathered along the streets to greet the Polish Prime Minister. PM Donald Tusk cheerfully interacted, shook hands, and took commemorative photos with locals and visitors, creating a warm atmosphere during his visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk's visit to Hoi An Ancient Town highlights the traditional friendship and cultural exchanges between Vietnam and Poland.
