At the meeting, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that Vietnam highly values its relationship with Kuwait. Recalling his successful phone talks with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah Al-Sabah in early March, he called for close coordination to implement agreed outcomes, particularly ensuring the safety of Vietnamese citizens in Kuwait and effectively rolling out the 2026–2030 action plan with more diversified areas of cooperation.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister conveyed regards from Party General Secretary To Lam and senior Vietnamese leaders to the Emir and leadership of Kuwait, while extending an invitation to the Kuwaiti Prime Minister to pay an official visit to Vietnam in 2026.

Amid complex developments in the Middle East, the Prime Minister expressed concern over potential impacts on global economic and energy stability. He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent position that disputes should be resolved through peaceful means, dialogue, and in accordance with international law, while expressing hope for the early restoration of peace in the region.

On economic cooperation, he proposed accelerating negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between Vietnam and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and strengthening business connectivity between the two countries. He also called for closer coordination to ensure energy security in response to current global challenges, contributing to stable production and livelihoods.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Sabbagh said Kuwait’s leadership highly appreciated the Prime Minister’s official visit to Kuwait in November 2025, during which the two countries upgraded ties to a strategic partnership, marking a significant milestone in bilateral relations.

He noted that relevant ministries and agencies from both sides are actively implementing the outcomes of the visit. In the current context, Kuwait will continue to work closely with Vietnam to ensure energy security, alongside providing necessary support for both Kuwaiti citizens and foreign residents, including Vietnamese nationals.

The Ambassador also pledged to serve as a bridge to encourage Kuwaiti energy corporations and investment funds to expand their presence in Vietnam, contributing to a more substantive, effective and reliable strategic partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on March 9 held phone talks with Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to discuss regional situation and bilateral ties.
