PM pushes for more effective Vietnam – US cooperation

He voiced Vietnam’s desire to promote the Comprehensive Partnership with the US on the basis of mutual benefits, and for peace, stability and development in the region and the rest of the world.

Vietnam aspires to strengthen cooperation with the United States in the fields of trade and investment, climate change, science and technology, education and training, among others, Chinh told his guest.

According to the PM, both Vietnam and the US have more room for stronger economic cooperation and they should increase cooperation in the areas of their strength and potential such as such as infrastructure, transportation, human resources, and renewable energy.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed an agreement reached earlier between the State Bank of Vietnam and the US Department of the Treasury regarding the Vietnam Currency Section 301 investigation, and requested both sides strictly implement the document.

He thanked the US for providing its medical supplies, including its Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, to Vietnam, and suggested the two sides continue to work closely together to address war aftermath.

Secretary Austin affirmed that the United States attaches great importance to the Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam.

The US supports a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam, and continues to build trust towards elevating their partnership to new heights, he noted.

The US official highly appreciated and voiced the US’s support for Vietnam’s increasing role in ASEAN and the United Nations Security Council.

He also affirmed that the United States will continue to assist Vietnam in overcoming the consequences of the past war, and to support the country in accessing additional vaccine sources in order to soon combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, both host and guest also exchanged views on international and international issues of mutual concern.
