PM Pham Minh Chinh pays tribute at Martyr’s Memorial in Algiers
VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh laid a wreath at the Memorial of the Martyr, visited the National Museum of the Moudjahid, and attended the launch of the Arabic edition of the book Dien Bien Phu by legendary General Vo Nguyen Giap of Vietnam.
The Memorial of the Martyr and the National Museum of the Army are among the most significant cultural and historical landmarks in Algeria, reflecting deep gratitude toward those who sacrificed their lives during Algeria’s war of independence (1954–1962). These sites also serve as national symbols of Algeria.
At the Memorial of the Martyr, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully bowed to honour and express profound gratitude to those who gave their lives for Algeria’s independence. The memorial, inaugurated in 1982, features three soaring arch-shaped structures symbolising the three phases of Algeria’s struggle for independence.
At the top of the structure, an eternal flame represents the undying spirit of the fallen heroes. Beyond its historical and artistic value, the memorial is a gathering place for national remembrance ceremonies, welcoming international delegations, and educating younger generations about patriotism.
During the visit to the National Museum of the Moudjahid (the Martyrs National Museum), the Vietnamese Prime Minister toured themed exhibition rooms that chronicle Algeria’s anti-colonial struggles from the 19th century to 1962.
The museum displays numerous photographs, documents, and portraits of revolutionary figures, as well as a distinguished section listing the first countries, including Vietnam, to recognise Algeria’s revolutionary government. The exhibitions highlight major battles, artifacts of fallen soldiers, and the sacrifices of Algerian freedom fighters.
The museum serves not only as a tourist destination but also as an important educational site for young Algerians, welcoming tens of thousands of students, researchers, and international visitors annually.
On the same day, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the launch of the Arabic edition of Dien Bien Phu by General Vo Nguyen Giap. Published by the National Political Publishing House, the ninth edition of the book was revised and supplemented with additional writings, documents, and historical events related to the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, compiled by Vo Hong Nam, the son of General Giap, in accordance with his father’s wishes.
The book chronicles the historic Dien Bien Phu campaign, comprising three main sections - letters from President Ho Chi Minh to the Dien Bien Phu front-line officers and soldiers; General Vo Nguyen Giap’s writings analysing the campaign’s strategies, decisions, and his personal reflections; and supplementary articles on the campaign from various sources.
This Arabic edition provides Algerian readers with a comprehensive, systematic understanding of the historical significance, scale, and profound impact of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, one of Vietnam’s most remarkable military victories.
