Party leader To Lam’s working trip overseas achieves set goals, says chief diplomat

VOV.VN - The March 9-13 working trip to Indonesia, the ASEAN Secretariat and Singapore by a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Party General Secretary To Lam has achieved all set goals at a high level, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

During the five-day trip, the General Secretary engaged in more than 40 activities, including high-level meetings, discussions, exchanges with various sectors, policy speeches, meetings with the Vietnamese community, and visits to economic and cultural establishments in both countries.

Relevant ministries, localities, and businesses of Vietnam, Indonesia and Singapore signed multiple cooperation agreements across various fields, including education and training, transnational crime prevention, fisheries, digital economy, digital transformation, green transition, and finance.

The trip holds historical significance as Vietnam simultaneously upgraded its relations with both Indonesia and Singapore, the two key ASEAN member states, thereby deepening cooperation with both countries and contributing more effectively to the ASEAN community, Son told the press on the outcomes of the business trip.

To date, Vietnam is the only ASEAN country with which both Indonesia and Singapore have established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

During talks and meetings in Jakarta, leaders of Vietnam and Indonesia agreed to deepen political trust and soon work out an Action Plan to effectively realise the new partnership framework. They consented to strengthen economic cooperation, striving to reach a trade turnover of US$18 billion soon, while promoting further cooperation in defense-security.

In addition, priority will be given to cooperation in areas such as the green economy, digital economy, innovation, energy transition, electric vehicle ecosystem development, e-commerce, smart delivery, digital payments, science and technology, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the halal industry.

The leaders also emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people exchanges, particularly among the younger generations.

With the ASEAN Secretariat, the diplomat said, this visit serves as a clear testament to ASEAN’s crucial role in Vietnam’s foreign policy and reaffirms the country’s commitment to contributing responsibly to the ASEAN Community-building process. This is especially important as ASEAN prepares for a new phase of development, positioning itself proactively to seize opportunities and address challenges.

Taking place on the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s ASEAN membership, the visit holds deep significance, reflecting Vietnam’s steadfast approach to ASEAN that is proactive, positive, and responsible. Vietnam remains fully committed to fostering a united, resilient, and developed ASEAN Community, to ensure that ASEAN continues to be a top priority in its foreign policy agenda.

In Singapore, the two sides committed to enhancing political trust, broadening and deepening economic, trade, and investment cooperation, and promoting collaboration in digital transformation, innovation, green economy, and clean energy. They also agreed to strengthen defense-security cooperation and foster ties in culture, education, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Furthermore, they agreed to expand the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) 2.0 model, emphasizing innovation and low-carbon emissions while advancing digital transformation and emerging technologies. Furthermore, cultural, sports, and youth exchanges will also be intensified to boost mutual understanding and friendship.

During talks and meetings, General Secretary To Lam and leaders of Indonesia, Singapore, and the ASEAN Secretariat openly exchanged views on regional and global issues. They vowed to enhance coordination at regional and international forums and work together with other ASEAN member states to build a successful ASEAN Community by 2045.

Moreover, the working trip helped to strengthen ties between the Communist Party of Vietnam and the ruling parties in Indonesia and Singapore, establishing a vital political foundation for Vietnam’s bilateral relations with both key ASEAN member states.
