Party leader To Lam visits historical relic sites in Guangzhou, China

VOV.VN - Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President To Lam called at historical relic sites dedicated to the Communist Party of Vietnam in Guangzhou, China, on August 18, upon his arrival there as part of his ongoing state visit to China.

To Lam and other Vietnamese officials in the delegation paid a floral tribute to martyr Pham Hong Thai (1895-1924), one of Vietnamese revolutionary activists, in front of his grave inside Huanghuagang Park.

In 1924, Thai, who hailed from central Nghe An province, was tasked with assassinating Martial Merlin, governor-general of French Indochina on a visit to Guangzhou at the time.

The assassination attempt failed and Thai chose to drown himself in the Pearl River to avoid capture. He was interred in the Huanghuagang Cemetery next to 72 Chinese revolutionaries who died in the Second Guangzhou uprising.

Huanghuagang Park has since become ‘a red address’ for every Vietnamese when they come and visit Guangzhou.

Later, To Lam and his entourage called at the relic site of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth Association, the predecessor organization of the Communist Party of Vietnam founded by Vietnamese leader Nguyen Ai Quoc (Ho Chi Minh).

The relic site is a place associated with the revolutionary career of Nguyen Ai Quoc during his stay in Guangzhou from 1924 to 1927, seeking ways for national salvation.

There, Nguyen Ai Quoc opened three political training classes for Vietnamese revolutionary activists. His lectures were collected and published into the book Đường Kách Mệnh (Revolutionary Path), one of the first theoretical documents of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The administration of Guangzhou refurbished and inaugurated the relic site on April 30, 2002 on the occasion of the 112th birthday anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh.

At the relic site, To Lam wrote in the guestbook praising President Ho’s outstanding contributions to training the first generation of loyal communists in Vietnam. He also thanked the Party and State of China, as well as the administration of Guangdong for preserving the relic site.
