Party leader lauds newly upgraded Vietnam - Thailand partnership framework
VOV.VN - The recent upgrade of Vietnam – Thailand relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is a historic milestone, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Vietnam–Thailand relations and meeting the development needs of both nations in the new era, said Party General Secretary To Lam.

Lam was speaking while receiving Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand in Hanoi on May 16. He welcomed Paetongtarn’s visit which he said would open a new chapter in deepened and more effective cooperation between the two countries.
Vietnam highly values and seeks to strengthen its friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Thailand, a close neighbour, a longstanding partner, and a top trade and investment partner of Vietnam, he affirmed.
The Party leader proposed that both countries strengthen political trust through enhanced cooperation across all channels and maintain the effectiveness of the Joint Cabinet Meeting mechanism and other bilateral cooperation frameworks.
He stressed the need for the two countries to enhance economic connectivity as a central pillar of cooperation, including advancing the Three Connectivity Partnership strategy and expanding cooperation in green economy, digital economy, and innovation, while encouraging investment and business partnerships.
He also proposed that both countries bolster defence and security cooperation, particularly in crime prevention, and work toward agreements to not allow any individuals or organisations to use each other’s territory to harm the other, for the sake of national and regional stability.
Given the two countries’ shared interests and perspectives on many regional and international issues, the leader said that Vietnam and Thailand should strengthen coordination at multilateral forums and within frameworks such as the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS), and Ayeyarwady–Chao Phraya–Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS), while supporting efforts to build a united, resilient ASEAN that plays a central role in the region.
For her part, Paetongtarn expressed high appreciation and full agreement with the General Secretary’s strategic proposals. She affirmed Thailand’s commitment to concretely implementing the new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a focus on economic cooperation, crime prevention, and aligned stances on regional and global matters.
On this occasion, she extended an official invitation to Lam to visit Thailand, and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.
Earlier, during the fourth Vietnam - Thailand Joint Cabinet Meeting in Hanoi on May 16, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh of Vietnam and Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra of Thailand agreed to upgrade bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
