National Assembly leader arrives in Türkiye for IPU-152 Assembly
VOV.VN - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and a high-level Vietnamese delegation arrived in Istanbul on April 15 to attend the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-152) and hold bilateral activities in Türkiye.
The visit is made at the invitation of IPU President Tulia Ackson and Secretary General Martin Chungong. The IPU-152 Assembly will take place in Istanbul from April 15–19, bringing together around 130 member parliaments, including some 60 parliamentary speakers.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union is the world’s largest multilateral parliamentary cooperation mechanism, playing a key role in promoting inter-parliamentary dialogue and strengthening multilateralism.
Vietnam joined the IPU in 1979 and has since become an increasingly influential voice within the organisation. Its successful hosting of the IPU-132 Assembly in Hanoi in 2015, which adopted the Hanoi Declaration on Sustainable Development Goals, marked a key milestone in its growing contributions to global parliamentary diplomacy.
This year’s IPU-152 theme, “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations,” aligns with discussions at the United Nations and reflects shared international priorities on peace, security, international law, post-conflict reconstruction, and emerging challenges such as economic and cyber security.
The assembly will also elect the IPU Secretary General for the 2026–2030 term.
Chairman Man’s participation underscores Vietnam’s image as a proactive, responsible and dialogue-oriented parliament, ready to work with the international community on shared global challenges.
He is scheduled to attend the opening session of IPU-152 and deliver a speech during the general debate on the assembly’s main theme.
On the sidelines of the assembly, the Vietnamese delegation will hold meetings with parliamentary leaders and international counterparts, including speakers from Türkiye, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as IPU leadership.
Chairman Man will also meet Istanbul Governor, representatives of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Board (DEIK), and the Türkiye–Vietnam Business Council. He is expected to attend and speak at a policy dialogue forum on promoting Vietnam–Türkiye cooperation, and meet members of the Vietnamese community and embassy staff in Türkiye.
