NA chairman receives visiting Russian PM in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Chairman of the National Assembly of Vietnam Tran Thanh Man on January 14 received Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin who arrived in Hanoi on the same day for a two-day official visit to Vietnam.

Man welcomed Mishustin’s visit which he said holds great significance in implementing the substantive agreements recently reached by the high-ranking leaders of both countries.

The visit marked the start of a series of events to celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and to underscore their traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership, he said.

Both sides praised the positive developments in political and diplomatic relations as well as bilateral cooperation in various fields, including economy-trade, defense-security, science-technology, culture, education, and tourism.

Man emphasized the crucial role of both countries’ parliaments in fostering inter-parliamentary cooperation and implementing agreements. He also proposed easing technical barriers, strengthening cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and expanding cooperation in energy, oil, and other areas.

Man noted that the National Assembly of Vietnam has worked closely and effectively with the Federation Council and the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks. Both sides have actively promoted high-level delegation exchanges and effectively implemented the mechanism of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the State Duma of Russia.

The National Assembly of Vietnam is ready to welcome the Chairman of the State Duma for an official visit to Vietnam and to co-chair the fourth session of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, he told his guest, adding the Vietnam is actively implementing a detailed action plan to realize the cooperation agreement signed between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly.

He voiced the National Assembly’s support for the two governments and their ministries and agencies to further strengthen comprehensive cooperation, particularly in critical areas such as national defense and security. He also underscored the importance of fostering energy and oil and gas cooperation by exploring expanded cooperation and signing new cooperation agreements.

Man introduced Vietnam’s independent and self-reliant foreign policy and reaffirmed that Vietnam seeks to promote cooperation with the Russian Federation across all fields for the mutual benefit, as well as for peace, stability, and development in the region and the rest of the world.

As a responsible member of ASEAN, he said Vietnam supports Russia in enhancing its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and strengthening cooperation with ASEAN. It is ready to act as a bridge to promote cooperation between Russia and other ASEAN countries.

Vietnam hopes that Russia will make positive contributions to the region's development, peace, and shared prosperity, while supporting ASEAN's and Vietnam’s positions on resolving disputes in the East Sea through peaceful means, based on respect for international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Mishustin for his part emphasized that Russia highly values its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and is pleased to see the positive development of relations between the two countries, yielding significant results across various fields. Notably, economic and trade cooperation has been developing dynamically. Cooperation in areas such as science and technology, culture, education, tourism, and local partnerships continues to expand. Both sides regularly and alternately organize the Vietnam and Russia Cultural Days in their respective countries.

On this occasion, the Russian Prime Minister conveyed the best wishes and regards from President Vladimir Putin, Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko, and Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federal Assembly Vyacheslav Volodin to Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
