Malaysia’s 68th National Day marked in Ho Chi Minh City

VOV.VN - The Consulate General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City solemnly celebrated the 68th National Day of Malaysia (August 31, 1958 – 2025) on the evening of September 8.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Loc Ha extended warm congratulations to the Government and people of Malaysia on their remarkable achievements over the years. He particularly highlighted Malaysia’s proactive role and important contributions as ASEAN Chair in 2025, which have significantly strengthened solidarity, resilience, integration, and the overall development of the ASEAN Community.

Ha stressed that, after more than half a century of diplomatic relations, ties between Vietnam and Malaysia have flourished and deepened across many fields, culminating in their elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2024. He acknowledged the significant efforts of the Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City in fostering friendship and cooperation, and reaffirmed that the city always welcomes and stands ready to create favourable conditions for Malaysian businesses and citizens to engage in trade, investment, tourism, and education.

Such exchanges will further enrich cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and Malaysian localities, while contributing to the strengthening of the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, he emphasised.

For his part, Consul General Firdauz Bin Othman expressed his pleasure at witnessing bilateral ties reach their highest level of development since the establishment of diplomatic relations over 50 years ago. He described the upgrade of Vietnam–Malaysia relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in November 2024 as a historic milestone, reflecting profound mutual trust and comprehensive collaboration between the two countries.

He noted that cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam has brought about positive outcomes in multiple areas, including economy, investment, culture, education, and people-to-people exchanges. The Consul General affirmed that the Malaysian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City has been, and will continue to be actively engaged in promoting bilateral cooperation.

He pledged to enhance coordination with the Ho Chi Minh City administration and local partners to further expand collaboration at the city level, from urban development to cultural exchanges.

The diplomat expressed the Consulate General’s desire to initiate more direct engagement activities, support additional Malaysian business delegations to visit Ho Chi Minh City and explore partnership opportunities, while also encouraging Vietnamese investors to discover Malaysia’s attractive and favourable investment environment.
