Int’l partners express confidence in Vietnam’s development path ahead of Party Congress
VOV.VN - The upcoming 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) has drawn close attention from the international community, with foreign diplomats and international organisations expressing confidence in the country’s development orientation for the next phase.
Diplomats and international partners have praised Vietnam’s comprehensive achievements during the past term, as well as its progress over the past four decades of Đổi mới (Renewal), while voicing expectations that the Congress will chart sound strategic directions for the country’s next phase of development.
Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphao Earthavanh notes that the 14th National Party Congress is being held at a particularly important juncture, marking a new stage of development for Vietnam after 80 years of independence and 40 years of reform and deepening international integration. She highlights Vietnam’s increasingly active and responsible participation in regional and global processes.
Assessing Vietnam’s recent development trajectory, Ambassador Earthavanh says the achievements recorded in the past term are of historical significance, reflecting the leadership capacity and strategic vision of the CPV in guiding the country through challenges. Vietnam’s ability to maintain political and social stability amid a rapidly changing and complex global environment, while steadily improving living standards and enhancing its international standing, has strengthened confidence both domestically and among international partners, including neighbouring countries and traditional and strategic partners such as Laos.
She expresses her belief that the 14th Party Congress will continue to define appropriate strategic directions, laying a solid foundation for Vietnam to enter a new phase of stronger and more sustainable development.
“I firmly believe and hope that one of the key pillars of the strategic orientation set out by the 14th Congress will be the continued strengthening of the special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic connectivity between Laos and Vietnam, for the practical benefit of the peoples of both countries, and for peace, stability and sustainable development in the region and the rest of the world,” the Lao ambassador says.
Sharing similar positive assessments, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pauline Tamesis commends the country’s achievements in economic development and social security. She noted that with gross national income per capita surpassing US$5,000, Vietnam is approaching the threshold of a upper-middle-income country. Poverty has declined to a record low, while the Human Development Index continues to improve.
According to the UN official, however, Vietnam’s development story is compelling not only because of economic indicators, but also due to its strong commitment to ensuring that economic growth goes hand in hand with social progress, sustainability and inclusiveness, with people placed at the centre of development.
Looking ahead to the post-14th Congress period, the United Nations welcomes Vietnam’s long-term vision of becoming a high-income country by 2045 and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. Tamesis stresses that Vietnam’s development pathway is not only about policy choices, but also about vision, ensuring that growth remains inclusive, sustainable and transformative. She affirms that the UN stands ready to continue supporting Vietnam through the upcoming 2027–2031 cooperation framework.
By working together, Vietnam’s development story continues to inspire the world, she says.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Ambassador to Vietnam and Head of the Foreign Diplomatic Corps Saadi Salama reveals he has followed and witnessed several CPV National Congresses over the decades. He notes that Vietnam’s development history demonstrates that major milestones have been closely linked to the Party’s strategic decisions, particularly at landmark congresses. He also expresses his view that the 14th National Party Congress will be such a pivotal event.
“At a time when the world is facing major challenges and increasing complexity, I hope the 14th National Congress will adopt important resolutions that advance a strategy for an independent, self-reliant and resilient Vietnam,” says the diplomat. “I wish the Congress every success, in the service of development, cooperation, and lasting and sustainable peace, not only in the region but globally.”
Taken together, the assessments and expectations expressed by foreign ambassadors and international organisations underscore that the 14th National Congress of the CPV holds significance not only for Vietnam’s future development, but also commands close attention and confidence from the international community. These views reflect international recognition of Vietnam’s achievements during the tenure of the 13th National Congress, and highlight continued confidence in the Party’s leadership, political resolve and strategic vision as Vietnam enters a new phase of development and deepens its integration into the global community.
