Ho Chi Minh City celebrates US Independence Day

VOV.VN - The US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City hosted a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City on June 27 to mark the 249th anniversary of US Independence Day (July 4, 1776 – 2025).

The event was attended by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc, along with local officials, business leaders, and US partners.

In her remarks, US Consul General Susan Burns noted that the United States and Vietnam, and in particular, US localities and Ho Chi Minh City  would continue to strengthen cooperation and expand bilateral relations in key areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, clean energy, and the digital economy.

She pointed out that US businesses have increasingly played a central role in fostering economic cooperation between the two countries, especially in Ho Chi Minh City. Leading the way is Intel, the first major US technology company to invest in the city nearly 20 years ago. Today, she said, legacy is being expanded by major players like NVIDIA, AMD, and Marvell, contributing to the development of a robust high-tech ecosystem in the city.

In addition to economic ties, local-level cooperation and people-to-people exchanges have become increasingly important, helping deepen the Vietnam–US partnership and fostering mutual understanding and shared prosperity.

She expressed optimism for the future of the partnership and affirmed that both sides remain committed to building a better future together.

HCM City leader Nguyen Van Duoc for his part noted that in 2024, two-way trade between Ho Chi Minh City and the United States reached over US$10.7 billion, an increase of 42% year-on-year. The US currently has more than 680 investment projects in the city, with total registered capital exceeding US$1.4 billion.

“These figures reflect mutual trust, continued cooperation, and promising prospects between both sides,” he said. “Locality-to-locality collaboration and people-to-people exchanges are playing a key role in promoting the Vietnam – US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, especially amid a world of constant change.”

He affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City has been and continues to be a leading partner of the United States in Vietnam across various fields, particularly in science and technology, innovation, and education and training.

He expressed confidence that with the joint efforts of businesses, local authorities, and the people of both countries, the bilateral partnership would continue to grow in a practical, effective, and sustainable way for mutual development and prosperity.
