Hanoi increases urban development cooperation with Chongqing

VOV.VN - An official of Hanoi proposed increasing urban development cooperation, especially in transport infrastructure development and green transition, with Chongqing (China) during his reception for Vice Mayor Xu Jian of Chongqing on October 24.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen affirmed that Vietnam - China friendship and cooperation are developing positively, with both countries’ leaders sharing a common vision of strengthening comprehensive collaboration. On that basis, Hanoi and Chinese localities, including Chongqing, have many opportunities to expand practical and effective cooperation.

Briefing his guest on Hanoi’s recent progress, Quyen said the city is streamlining its administrative apparatus, maintaining strong economic growth, and mobilising diverse resources to advance several priority areas such as transport infrastructure development, urban flood prevention, environmental protection, preservation of traditional craft villages, tourism promotion, and social welfare enhancement.

He proposed several cooperation directions between the two cities, including urban transport planning and infrastructure development, green transition, environmental pollution control, people-to-people exchanges, and tourism development.

Quyen also expressed his hope that Chongqing-based enterprises would explore investment opportunities in Hanoi, particularly in the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park.

Xu, for his part, agreed with the proposed cooperation directions and suggested that both sides strengthen trade connectivity and develop logistics infrastructure to facilitate collaboration in advanced manufacturing and new energy industries. He expressed his belief that Hanoi, with its strategic geographical location, could become an important transit hub in the emerging trade corridor linking Chongqing with countries across the region.

On transport development, Xu said Chongqing has extensive experience in building bridges, tunnels, and roads in its mountainous terrain and river-crossed landscape, and is ready to share expertise and cooperate with Hanoi in this area.

Chongqing is the youngest among China’s four centrally governed municipalities but has the largest administrative area and population, with strong advantages in the manufacturing sector.

It is currently developing large-scale modern manufacturing clusters worth trillions of yuan, focusing on smart automobiles, next-generation network technology, electronics, and advanced materials. In 2024, the city’s automobile output reached 2.54 million vehicles, including 953,000 new energy vehicles (NEVs) - the highest figure in China.
