Djibouti wishes to strengthen relations with Vietnam

VOV.VN - President Ismail Omar Guelleh expressed Djibouti’s wish to promote cooperative ties with Vietnam while receiving Vietnamese Ambassador to Egypt cum Djibouti Nguyen Huy Dung on September 5.

The President spoke highly of the impressive economic development achievements that Vietnam has recorded over recent years, and said Djibouti looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in the fields of trade, seaport services, and fisheries.

Ambassador Dung who presented his credentials to the President thanked Djibouti for supporting Vietnam in multilateral forums, and affirmed that Vietnam wishes to increase multifaceted cooperation with Djibouti. He assured he would do his best to contribute to elevating the friendship and cooperation between the two countries to new heights.

Earlier, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Dung presented a copy of the credentials to Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mahmoud Ali Youssouf. The Ambassador congratulated Djibouti on its important socio-economic development achievements, and expected that Djibouti with its strategic location would serve as a bridge for Vietnam to promote trade and investment relations with other African countries.

Welcoming the Vietnamese diplomat, Minister Mahmoud Ali Youssouf emphasized the need for the two countries to continue to coordinate and support each other at international organizations, especially the United Nations and the Francophonie.

He agreed with the Vietnamese diplomat’s proposal that the two countries should strengthen multifaceted cooperation, especially in economics, and encourage their businesses to explore markets and business opportunities, particularly in the fields of hi-tech agriculture, import and export of agricultural and aquatic products.

The Djibouti Minister also suggested that the two sides soon negotiate and sign necessary agreements, including an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, and at the same time hold political consultations and exchange of reciprocal visits in the coming time.
