Deputy PM receives JERA Senior Managing Executive Officer

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha received Steven Winn, senior managing executive officer of the Japanese energy company JERA in Hanoi on July 27.

Ha highly appreciated leading Japanese companies, including JERA, proposing renewable energy investment projects in Vietnam, helping to realise the country’s net zero gas emissions commitments and implement Japan’s Asia-Zero Emissions Community (AZEC) initiative.

He briefed his guest on Vietnam’s strong climate commitments, and expected that Japanese and Vietnamese energy companies would closely cooperate in implementing clean energy and renewable energy projects in line with the recently approved Power Development Plan VIII for mutual benefit.

He suggested with its strength JERA can engage in a pilot energy project under the AZEC initiative in Vietnam, and affirmed that the Government, ministries and localities will create the best possible conditions for JERA to deploy its project in the country.

Effective emissions reduction models that JERA has introduced in Japan should be implemented in Vietnam, he suggested.

Winn for his part informed his host about gas thermal power, wind power, solar power projects in Japan and elsewhere in Asia and Europe, and said JERA is looking for investment opportunities in Vietnam in the field of liquefied natural gas power with the most advanced technology.

JERA also desires to take part in the process of converting coal power plants to liquefied natural gas power plants using new fuels such as green hydrogen, green ammonia, and biomass, in combination with carbon capture and storage in Vietnam, he said.
