Cuban President pays tribute to Vietnamese Party chief in Havana

VOV.VN - A high-ranking delegation of Cuba led by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez paid tribute to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at a funeral ceremony held at the headquarters of the Vietnamese Embassy in Havana on July 24 (local time).

President Díaz-Canel was joined by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, head of the Party Central Committee’s Organization Commission Roberto Morales Ojeda, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla and others.

Díaz-Canel described General Secretary Trong as a sincere and close friend of Cuba, and affirmed that his passing was a great loss to the Cuban people. He said the Party chief in whatever positions promoted the special friendship, strong fraternity, and mutual trust between the two Parties, States and peoples.

Writing in the condolence book, the Cuban leader expressed his belief that the General Secretary’s contributions will go in the cause of the Vietnamese Party and people forever.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Marrero recalled his Vietnam visit last year as well as General Secretary Trong’s sentiments towards Cuba, adding the whole Caribbean nation is showing its solidarity with Vietnam those days.

Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa also affirmed the entire Party and people of Cuba accompany Vietnam at this moment, and that Cuba will always stand by the side with Vietnam.

For his part, Ambassador Le Quang Long thanked the Cuban leaders for their sentiments and said Cuba was the first country that announced days of national mourning in memory of the Vietnamese leader.

He also emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was the only Vietnamese leader who had visited the Caribbean nation five times in different positions.
