China’s top leader sends special envoy to Vietnam
VOV.VN - China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping has dispatched a special envoy to Vietnam to convey congratulations on the successful organisation of the recent 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the re-election of Party General Secretary To Lam.
At a regular press briefing in Hanoi on January 29, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said Liu Haiting, member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Head of the CPC Central Committee’s International Liaison Department, is to visit Vietnam on January 29 - 30 in his capacity as special envoy of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping.
The visit aims to deliver warm congratulations from the CPC Central Committee and from leader Xi personally to General Secretary To Lam on the CPV’s successful organisation of its 14th National Congress and on his continued trust and re-election as Party leader.
According to the spokesperson, shortly after the conclusion of the Congress, Vietnam has received numerous high-level delegations coming to extend congratulations, including Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse, and Cambodian People’s Party Vice President Men Sam An, representing CPP President Hun Sen.
General Secretary To Lam has also held telephone talks with General Secretary and President Xi Jinping of China, First Secretary and President Miguel Díaz-Canel of Cuba, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. During these exchanges, leaders of the countries warmly congratulated the CPV on the successful Congress and Party chief To Lam on his re-election.
To date, the 14th National Congress has received 925 congratulatory messages and letters from political parties, international organisations, political and friendship organisations, people’s organisations, localities worldwide, as well as overseas Vietnamese associations.
This reflects the strong interest and warm sentiments of international friends and overseas Vietnamese toward the Party, State and people of Vietnam, as well as toward the CPV’s leadership role and Vietnam’s development orientation in the coming period, said the spokesperson.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its sincere thanks to diplomatic missions, international organisations in Hanoi, and domestic and foreign journalists for their close attention and support throughout the 14th National Congress.
