Australian Governor General hails strategic partnership with Vietnam

VOV.VN - Governor – General David Hurley on November 27 hailed the strategic partnership between Australia and Vietnam, which he said creates the foundation for the two countries to strengthen cooperation in politics, economics, security, education and the environment.

Receiving newly accredited Vietnamese ambassador to Australia Nguyen Tat Thanh, Hurley suggested that both sides should outline orientations to take bilateral ties to new heights in the future, for the sake of peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Governor – General also congratulated Vietnam on successfully taking on the role of ASEAN Chair 2020 and handling the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic. He noted that Vietnam is one of the few in the world that has achieved positive economic growth during the pandemic.

Ambassador Thanh who presented his credentials to the Governor – General said it was his honour to undertake the new role and therefore pledged to put forward his best efforts to foster greater ties between the two countries

The Vietnamese diplomat conveyed the top Vietnamese leader’s greetings to the Governor – General and thanked the Australian Government for their timely support for flood-hit Vietnamese regions.
