Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan and his entourage paid a working visit to the Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), to review its activities in the 2006-2010 period and its development orientations for the 2011-2015 period.

Addressing the working session with the Academy leaders, Deputy PM Nhan highlighted its activities in the past five years. He asked VAST to continue to promote research to improve the economy’s competitive edge, develop and transfer technologies to localities to assist their socio-economic development programmes, meet business demands for production and create training policies to attract talent and strengthen the capacity of the Academy’s staff. It should also promote cooperation between the Academy and international organizations in the region and the world for training experts and cadres.

To fulfill these tasks, Deputy PM Nhan said that the Academy should promote high quality scientific and technological research and the transfer of technology in order to upgrade technical infrastructure and build specialized institutes and national laboratories that will meet the requirements of South East Asian nations.

It should also establish strong science and technology organisations to help resolve some urgent national matters.
