Deputy PM receives EU Military Committee Chairman

VOV.VN - Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh on December 5 hosted a reception for Chairman of the EU Military Committee General Mikhail Kostarakos in Hanoi.

Deputy PM Minh suggested Vietnam and the EU enhance all-level exchange visits and share experience in fields of mutual concern and build cooperation frameworks and mechanisms. He highlighted high-level meetings between army leaders of Vietnam and the EU as an important channel to deepen their mutual understanding and to reinforce bilateral defence cooperation. 

He underlined the need for both sides to boost collaboration in multiple fields such as training, cyber security and information-technology, UN peace-keeping operations, search and rescue, military medicine, humanitarian aid, disaster relief and settlement of post-war bomb and mine consequences in Vietnam. 

Vietnam is speeding up deeper international integration across the fields, from politics to economy, culture and national defence and security and has actively engaged in cooperation activities with countries worldwide, for peace, stability and security in the region and the world, Minh said.

He also described General Mikhail Kostarakos’s visit as vivid evidence of the goodwill of both Vietnam and the EU to strengthen friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two sides in the spirit of the Partnership and Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement that was signed in June 2012 and became effective since October 1, 2016. 

For his part, General Mikhail Kostarakos said his visit is designed to beef up cooperation contents pertaining to national defence and security within the framework of the aforesaid agreement.

He briefed his host on his working session with the Vietnam Defence Ministry.
