Vietnam pays special attention to protecting intellectual property rights, considering this an important factor behind national development, says Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung.

Mr Hung made the statement while receiving Dr Francis Gurry, General Director of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) in Hanoi on January 19.

He said Vietnam has actively implemented regional and international intellectual property (IP) agreements.

He expressed his hope that WIPO will continue to assist Vietnam in IP-related issues, especially in making IP policies and laws and providing human resource training.

Dr Gurry acknowledged Vietnam’s effective cooperation with WIPO and affirmed that given its impressive growth rate the country will see a boom in IP in the coming years. Therefore, he underlined the need to improve the competence of relevant officers and experts on IP.
