During his official visit from June29-July 2, the deputy PM co-chaired the fourth meeting of the Steering Committee for Vietnam-China Bilateral Cooperation at which both sides expressed satisfaction with the results of cooperation since the third meeting in 2009.
Over the year, there have been many exchange visits by the two countries’ leaders, and exchange activities between the ministries and agencies. In addition, cross-border trade cooperation has been promoted along with a variety of activities to mark 60 years of diplomatic ties and celebrate Vietnam-China Friendship Year 2010.
Both sides agreed on measures to promote political exchanges, maintain a steady growth rate in trade; boost cultural cooperation; step up border demarcation efforts, and work closely together on global and regional issues.
On the last day of his visit, Deputy PM Khiem met with Chinese Vice president Xi Jinping and offered his congratulations on the 89th anniversary of the Communist Party of China. He also presented his condolences to the victims of the recent flooding in China’s southern provinces.
Vice President Xi Jinping praised the meeting’s success and expressed his hope that the strategic cooperation and partnership between Vietnam and China will bring greater prosperity to both.
Before his departure, Mr. Khiem also met with other top Chinese officials and visited some key economic and cultural centres in Beijing and Tianjin.
