Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on March 14 visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community there.

Mr Nhan, who is on a current visit to Russia, briefed embassy staff and Vietnamese nationals on Vietnam’s recent socio-economic development and the result of cooperation with Russia, especially in education. He said Vietnam is working on a programme with the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Russia to build four universities meeting international standards.

Mr Nhan praised Vietnamese students in Russia for their hard work and expressed his hope they would excel in their study and gain up-to-date knowledge to contribute to the country as soon as they finish courses and return to Vietnam.

He also acknowledged the community’s efforts to overcome difficulties caused by the global economic recession and encouraged them to unite, support each other, and observe the law in the country of their residence to live stable lives.

In the morning, Deputy PM Nhan laid a wreath at late President Ho Chi Minh’s Statue and visited Red Square in Moscow.

Earlier, on March 11-13 Mr Nhan visited Saint Petersburg, Saint Petersburg State University and several institutions in the city.
