At the meeting, General Thanh and Ambassador Michael Michalak expressed their pleasure at the fine, ever-growing relations between Vietnam and the US in various areas, including politics, diplomacy, economics, culture and education, science and technology, defence and security.

They agreed to accelerate cooperative efforts in the search for US soldiers missing in action, bombs clearance, the exchange of working delegations and English language training for Vietnamese military officials.

The same day, the US Ambassador attended a ceremony held at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi to mark the transfer of remains believed to be those of US servicemen killed during the war in Vietnam.
