Da Nang ceremony underscores expanding locality-to-locality ties of Vietnam, China

The Chinese Consulate General in Da Nang city held a ceremony on September 23 to celebrate the 76th anniversary of China’s National Day (October 1, 1949–2025).

The event gathered representatives of ministries and central agencies, leaders of central provinces and cities of Vietnam, as well as Chinese businesses and associations based in Da Nang.

In his remarks, Acting Chinese Consul General in Da Nang Yang Shunfeng highlighted that the reciprocal visits by Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and Vietnamese Party General Secretary To Lam within a year illustrate the strategic importance and high level of bilateral relations. Guided by the top leaders of both Parties and States, cooperation between the two countries has continued to deepen across multiple fields.

Looking ahead, the Chinese Consulate General expressed its readiness to work closely with provinces and cities in its consular area to advance the countries' “six major orientations”: stronger political trust, more substantive defence and security cooperation, broader and deeper practical collaboration, more solid social foundations, closer coordination in multilateral fora, and more effective management and resolution of differences. These efforts, Yang affirmed, will help expand exchanges and cooperation in all areas, thereby contributing to building a China – Vietnam community with a shared future of strategic significance.

Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Ho Ky Minh congratulated China on its recent achievements. He stressed that as the two countries mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations, their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership has grown increasingly strong and profound.

Da Nang, he noted, is proud to have been contributing to the countries' friendship through various practical cooperation activities with Chinese localities. It has recently received numerous high-level delegations from Chinese provinces coming to explore opportunities for cooperation. The city has also conducted various exchange programmes in trade, investment, tourism, culture, and education.

These initiatives have helped reinforce friendship, enhance mutual understanding, and deliver practical benefits to both sides, Minh went on, adding that Da Nang is also maintaining and expanding its friendly ties with several Chinese localities, including Yunnan, Guangxi, Jiangsu, and Shandong.

The official also took this occasion to appreciate the Consulate General's crucial role in fostering ties between Da Nang and Chinese localities, calling on the mission to make further contributions to bilateral relations.

The year 2025 marks both the 75th anniversary of Vietnam – China diplomatic relations and the Year of Vietnam – China Humanistic Exchange. With over 3.1 million Chinese visitors to Vietnam in 2024, making up 25.5% of total international arrivals and ranking first, exchanges between central Vietnamese localities and Chinese partners such as Shandong, Fujian, Shaanxi, Guangxi, and Yunnan have become increasingly dynamic, resulting in numerous cooperation agreements in trade, sister-city partnerships, and cultural exchanges.
