Czech Republic donates 250,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses to Vietnam

VOV.VN - The Czech Government has decided to donate over 250,000 COVID-19 vaccines and a number of quick test kits, whilst also pledging to transfer a further 500,000 doses to the country to help contain the COVID-19 pandemic as soon as possible.

During a recent meeting held with Czech Health Minister Adam, Vietnamese Ambassador Thai Xuan Dung congratulated the Czech Republic on its effective vaccination and COVID-19 containment efforts. The local diplomat also used the occasion to extend thanks to the Central European nation for its timely and valuable support in terms of vaccine donations.

Both sides discussed a range of measures aimed at intensifying delegation exchange at all levels, whilst ramping up bilateral healthcare co-operation, with a particular focus on COVID-19 prevention and control measures which were touched upon during a phone call between the two prime ministers on August 9.

Ambassador Dung suggested that the Czech side promote the transfer of the vaccines and provide support through medical equipment and COVID-19 treatment drugs at the earliest possible opportunity. He also asked for help in accessing vaccine sources and the EU’s vaccine production technology.

Regarding medical co-operation between the two countries, the Vietnamese diplomat emphasized that the nation desires to augment co-operation with the Czech Republic on human resource training, in addition to the production of medical equipment and pharmaceuticals. He therefore suggested that the two sides study and accelerate the signing of a co-operation agreement on sending Vietnamese nurses to work in the Czech Republic.

In response, Minister Vojtech expressed his appreciation for the positive development of the traditional friendly ties between the two sides, adding that his country is poised to deliver 250,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in the near future. The Czech Ministry of Health will report back to the Czech Government on the Vietnamese proposal for co-operation in the fight against COVID-19, he added.

The Czech Health Minister went on to affirm his support for measures aimed at boosting co-operation between the two countries in the medical field, especially in human resource training and sending Vietnamese orderlies to work in medical and nursing facilities in the Central European nation.

He therefore welcomed the investment project of the International Children's Hospital in the central city of Da Nang and promised to work with medical businesses to consider funding for the Vietnam-Czech Republic Hospital in Hai Phong.

Minister Vojtech concluded by stating his wish to visit Vietnam as soon as a means of further strengthening the traditional friendship between the two countries.
