Cuba’s National Day observed in HCM City
(VOV) - A meeting was held in Ho Chi Minh City on January 4 to celebrate Cuba’s 54th National Day (January 1).
Despite the geographical distance, the revolutionary ideals and goals have united the two nations during the past struggle for national liberation and the current process of national construction over the past 54 years, said Hoang Thi Khanh, President of the HCM City Union of Friendship Organisations.
The Parties, governments and peoples of Vietnam and Cuba have stood shoulder to shoulder to surmount difficulties and make marked achievements in national development, she said.
Khanh voiced HCM City’s strong support for long-standing friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba.
Gabriel Perez Tarrau, Consul General of Cuba in HCM City, thanked Vietnam for having demanded the US end its embargoes against Cuba for years.
Tarrau said Cuba has implemented measures to boost economic reform, resulting in a growth rate of 3.4 percent in 2012. It plans to raise its GDP growth rate to 3.7 percent in 2013.
