Cuba-Vietnam relations an invaluable asset

The relations between Vietnam and Cuba have constantly been consolidated and nurtured over the past four decades and have become an invaluable asset for the two countries, says Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

  • Mr Trong made the affirmation while meeting with Cuban people in Havana on April 10 (local time).

    The Party leader briefed them on the achievements Vietnam has gained since the Renewal (Doi Moi) Process was launched in 1986 and recalled the hardship of the struggle for national independence.

    He emphasized that the 11th National Party Congress reaffirmed the people’s desire, and the Party and President Ho Chi Minh’s sound decision of pursuing socialism.

    Mr Trong also expressed his appreciation for Cuban people’s assistance for Vietnam during its past struggle and present national construction and development.

    ** Earlier the same day, the Party chief visited a cooperation project on rice production by Vietnam and Cambodia, which is being implemented in Pina del Rio province.

    Since being launched, the project has expanded its cultivation area to 3,000 ha, yielding a total of 170,000 tonnes of rice.

    Mr Trong highlighted the project, saying it is a symbol of effective cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba. He said the initial positive results lay a firm foundation for both nations to expand cooperation to other fields.

    ** Also on April 10, while working with the Vietnamese embassy in Cuba, the General Secretary asked the embassy’s staff to make greater efforts to nurture the traditional mutual friendship and comradeship, which he said, is an invaluable asset for both nations.
