CPV strengthens ties with Latin American left-wing parties

Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and Chief of the committee’s Office Le Hoai Trung hosted a reception in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30 afternoon for Vice President of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Jesús Germán Faría Tortosa.

Highly appreciating the PSUV and Venezuelan government's decision to send a high-level delegation to engage in Vietnam's important commemoration, Trung said that the visit stands as vivid testimony to the trusted and effective cooperative relationship between the two parties and represents the valuable support of the Venezuelan people for the Vietnamese people's cause of national defence and development.

He expressed his delight at the robust development of the two parties’ ties over the recent past and suggested enhanced delegation exchange and contacts at all levels through the Party, State, parliament and people-to-people exchange channels.

The Party official laid stress on the need to effectively carry out the cooperation agreement between the two parties for 2023-2028, political consultation mechanisms at the Deputy Foreign Minister level, and coordination for the fourth meeting of the Vietnam-Venezuela Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee. He also emphasised advancing cooperation documents across various sectors to facilitate market access for each country's competitive products, thereby increasing bilateral trade turnover, and promoting investment cooperation in energy, telecommunications, agriculture, and construction materials.

Jesús Germán Faría Tortosa, for his part, conveyed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's struggle for national liberation and reunification, as well as the comprehensive achievements of the Doi Moi (renewal) process initiated and led by the CPV.

He affirmed that Venezuela highly values Vietnam's increasingly important position in the international arena as well as the cooperation relationship with the country, stating Venezuela stands ready to collaborate with Vietnam to expand cooperation in strategic fields and broaden Vietnam's relationships with the Latin American region, for the benefit of both peoples and for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in both regions and the world.

The same afternoon, Trung received General Secretary of the United Left Movement (MIU) Party of the Dominican Republic Miguel Mejia who is leading a delegation to attend the reunification commemoration.

Vietnam always values the solidarity and support from the Dominican people, as well as the efforts to connect and promote the relations between the two countries made by the MIU, especially by Mejia and the MIU leadership, through their contributions to enhancing the value of the Ho Chi Minh statue in Santo Domingo, a symbol of the sound relationship between the two peoples, Trung highlighted.

Expressing his joy with the positive development of ties between the two countries, he suggested both sides strengthen delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels and called for the effective implementation of the political consultation mechanisms at the Deputy Foreign Minister level and completion of procedures to launch the joint committee mechanism to promote bilateral trade and investment.

He also urged negotiations towards signing cooperation documents to improve the legal framework facilitating bilateral cooperation, and continued exploration of potential investment cooperation opportunities in such fields as construction materials, oil and gas exploitation, semiconductor, high technology, tourism, and agriculture.

Mejia affirmed that the MIU always values and wishes to strengthen effective cooperative relations with the CPV. The MIU will continue to promote measures to expand multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and stands ready to support Vietnam in strengthening and expanding relations with the Latin American region.

The two sides concurred to enhance and expand cooperation between the two Parties, especially in sharing leadership experience and national development management, human resources training, as well as strengthen cooperation within international organisations and at multilateral forums.
