The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) sent a delegation to the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka (CPSL) held in Colombo from August 27-29. 

The head of the delegation, Vuong Thua Phong, who is Deputy Head of the CPV Central Committee Commission for External Relations, and his entourage were warmly welcomed by the host Party General Secretary Dew Gunasekara. 

The CPSL leader spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements in the renewal process and its external relations policies as well as the CPV’s increasing role and prestige and sound leadership in the cause of national construction. 

During their stay in Sri Lanka, the CPV delegation met with the ruling Sri Lanka Freedom Party General Secretary, Maithripala Sirisena. The Vietnamese communists also held meetings with leaders of the Foreign Ministry and other ministries to boost multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.
