A delegation from the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs (COVA) led by Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Thanh Son is on a visit to Laos from March 28-31.

At a reception for the delegation on March 29, Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Doangchay Phichith welcomed the delegation’s visit and expressed his wish that both sides will promote cooperation and share experience to foster the friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Mr Son congratulated Laos on the successful organisation of its 9th People’s Revolutionary Party Congress and briefed the Lao Deputy PM on the situation of the Vietnamese community abroad and the outcome of talks between the COVA and the Liaison Committee for Laos.

The Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs will promote cooperation with its Lao counterpart to effectively implement the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two committees that was signed the same day.

Under the MoU for the 2011-2015 period, both sides will continue to work together closely and help each other in encouraging their people to contribute more to the homelands and fight hostile elements that could undermine the two countries.
