Courts should improve the quality of trials, avoid making wrong judgments and minimize the number of delayed cases, says State President Truong Tan Sang.

Addressing a court review meeting for 2011 in Hanoi on January 3, Mr Sang asked the sector to train staff capable of taking part in regional and international lawsuits to defend national sovereignty and interests during the process of international integration.

It is important to develop a contingent of judicial staff with a firm political conscience and professional skills to fight for justice and protect the socialist regime, said Mr Sang.

He asked the sector to strictly deal with negative aspects amongst staff, including bribery and corruption, in order to win the public’s trust.

In 2011, the court sector handled nearly 300,000 cases, accounting for 92 percent of those registered. The number of cancelled and adjusted convictions was also reduced to 3.6 percent.

In 2012, it will speed up judicial reform, promote mediation in civil cases, increase dialogue in administrative cases, streamline administrative procedures, and handle big cases. It will review the implementation of the 1992 Constitution and increase training for judges and jury members at the grassroots level.
