Corruption prevents national development: Deputy PM

Vietnam considers corruption one of the barriers preventing its development, says Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Mr Phuc emphasized this at the tenth working session of the Anti-corruption Dialogue, which was held in Hanoi on November 29. He said this round of the dialogue will provide the international community with updated information on Vietnam’s policies and law related to combating corruption.

The Vietnamese Government and its agencies are willing to hear and respect contributions, experiences, and recommendations for preventing corruption from international partners and friends, the Deputy PM said.

Participants in the event spoke highly of Vietnam’s achievements in completing relevant institutions and policies and implementing anti-corruption laws. They also urged the country to increase transparency by strengthening inspections and monitoring in key sectors.

This round of the dialogue was organised by the Government Inspectorate, the Central Steering Committee against Corruption, the UK embassy in Vietnam and the UK Department of International Development. It focused on assessing the impact of the nine previous sessions on anti-corruption work in Vietnam.

The Anti-corruption Dialogue, that has taken place since 2007 under agreements between the Vietnamese Government and international donors, has become an important information channel for participants to share experiences and map out orientations for the struggle against corruption in Vietnam.
