At the conference, attended by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, the consultative group for Vietnam praised the Vietnamese government’s efforts to manage the macro-economy, maintain its growth rate, and ensure social welfare during the global economic crisis.
They proposed that in the future, the government should continue to introduce flexible and appropriate management policies to restructure the national economy, improve its public administration and combat corruption more effectively.
Speaking on the occasion, PM Dung thanked the community of donors to Vietnam and praised them for their assistance in recent times. He stressed that the Vietnamese government will do its utmost to make full of the capital.
Mr Dung told the conference that Vietnam encountered many difficulties in 2009 but adjusted its overall goals for the year at the right time, with a change of priorities from curbing inflation to preventing economic decline. He said that the country had recorded important outcomes in different areas in 2009 and maintained an economic growth rate of 6.8 percent for the fourth quarter and 5.2 percent for the whole year. He added that the total amount of social investment has almost reached 42 percent of GDP, an increase of 16 percent from 2008.
The PM said that in 2010 the government will focus on regaining an annual economic growth rate of about 6.5 percent, which will help to achieve the targets of the socio-economic plan for 2006-2010.
