A ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of the HCM City-Long Thanh-Dau Giay section of North-South Highway project was held in HCM City on October 3 in the presence of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung.  

The first phase of this important project will cost US$932.4 million. The total cost for the project is funded by the Vietnam Highway Investment and Development Company VEC, which will make a return on their investment capital after 32 years of fee collection.

Once competed, the project will give fresh impetus to socio-economic development and ensure the security of the provinces involved in the project and the key economic triangle in the south-eastern Nam Bo region.

In his opening speech, PM Dung highlighted the strategic importance of the project to the country’s socio-economic development and asked investors and the relevant agencies for their full commitments so that the project will be completed on schedule.

Mr Dung emphasised that The successful proejct implementation will contribute to further strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and Japan, China and the Asia Development Bank.
