Congo boosts cooperative ties with Vietnam
(VOV) - Congo desires to receive Vietnamese investors, especially in mining, agriculture and aquaculture, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Basile Ikouebe has said.
At a reception in Hanoi on October 30 given by State President Truong Tan Sang, Ikouebe expressed Congo’s admiration for the Vietnamese people’s past struggle for national independence and their impressive Renewal achievements.
He sent condolences to Sang over the recent passing of revered General Vo Nguyen Giap who was respected by the Congo people.
He said his visit is to prepare for a meeting of the inter-governmental committee of Vietnam and Congo in the lead up to 50 years of their diplomatic ties and for a Hanoi visit by the Congo president in 2014.
To celebrate this landmark event, he said both countries should plan a variety of activities to boost bilateral cooperation in all areas, spanning politics, economics, culture and education.
Congo recently recognised Vietnam as a full market economy status, creating the prerequisite for stronger economic and trade ties between the two countries, he said.
For his part, President Sang confirmed Vietnam attaches great importance to strengthening cooperation with its traditional friends, including Congo.
He acknowledged the Minister’s proposal concerning the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Congo diplomatic ties, and said both sides need to maintain regular exchange visits and re-examine signed documents to expand cooperation in their potential areas such as oil and gas, education, health care, agriculture, and information technology.
