The Central Highlands region’s Steering Committee held a conference on July 13 to review the socio-economic situation in the first half of this year under the chairmanship of General and Minster of Public Security Le Hong Anh.

Over the past six months, the Central Highlands region has continued to maintain a relatively high economic growth rate of 12.9 percent, with export turnover and tax revenue reaching US$ 585 million (up 6.33 percent), and VND 4,576 billion (up 22.8 percent), respectively.

Remarkable progress has been made in infrastructure development, attraction of domestic investment capital and the implementation of the Government’s resolutions on poverty reduction.

However, there remained weaknesses in the region with complex issues related to land disputes, management of natural resources and the environment, forest land allocation and slow disbursement of capital for key national projects.

In his speech, Mr Anh spoke highly of the results recorded in the reviewed period and asked the region to deal with pending issues in the remaining months with a focus on maintaining political stability, and ensuring social welfare, economic growth and safety for the organisation of the Party congresses at grassroots level.
