A national conference was held in Hanoi on January 8 by the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission to review its activities in 2006 and set tasks and orientations for 2007.

Judging from inspection work in 2006, Vice Chairman of the Inspection Commission Nguyen Thi Doan said remarkable progress was made in examining Party members and dealing with Party member-related denunciations and petitions. However, there were violations of observing the Party’s statutes, guidelines, resolutions and decrees and State polices
.

She noted that a number of State officials had abused their power and made use of weaknesses in the State mechanisms to appropriate State property.

In 2007, Party inspection work should be conducted properly and all those who hold certain positions but get involved in corruption cases must be dully punished. Party members suspected of corruption without clear investigation conclusion should be given other tasks instead, stressed Mrs Doan.

In 2006, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission disciplined one Party cell and 20 Party members including three members of the Party Central Committee. Among the disciplined members, up to 665 were prosecuted and 426 of them were suspended from Party activity.
