Combining economic growth with social welfare
From now to 2020, the Vietnamese Party, State and people will strive to develop the nation into a modern industrialised country.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Central Committee held the third meeting of its 7th term in Hanoi on February 27 to review work in 2010 and devise tasks for 2011.

VFF President Huynh Dam said at the opening meeting that Vietnam witnessed many important events in 2010 and gained significant achievements despite a number of challenges. The economy basically escaped the global downturn and achieved a growth rate of 6.78 percent. Social welfare was improved, politics and the society were stable, and national defence and security were maintained. External relations were strengthened, the nation’s status was raised in the international arena and great national unity bloc was consolidated and promoted. These are important foundations for the country to develop further in 2011 and in the future.
Speaking at the meeting, Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong presented a brief on the success of the 11th National Party Congress and said that the VFF and its members from central to grassroots levels contributed to its success.
Mr Trong praised the leadership of the VFF Central Committee for developing an action plan to implement the 11th National Party Congress resolutions and a programme to work with its members to prepare for the upcoming election for the 2011-2016 term.
Mr Trong affirmed that Vietnam aims to become a modern industrialised country by 2020 and achieve an annual per capita income of US$2,000-2,100 by 2015 and around US$3,000-3,200 by 2020.
To fulfill these targets, Vietnam will focus on developing a socialist-oriented market economy and a socialist law-governed State - a State of the people, by the people and for the people. It will combine economic growth with social welfare, strengthen independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and promote democracy and national unity.

Mr Trong said he hopes that through its functions and tasks the VFF will continue to implement and realize the Party resolutions.
He urged the VFF to continue launching emulation movements, such as creating a new cultural life in residential areas, the Day for the Poor, and Vietnamese people using Vietnamese products, along with accelerating social charitable activities.
The meeting will last until February 28.
