In Vietnam, citizens' rights to freedom are clearly enshrined in the constitution and legal documents and are guaranteed in reality, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi on September 25.
- Three jailed for anti-State propaganda
Vietnamese people exercise all their rights in accordance with the law, Nghi said in response to reporters’ questions about a HCM City trial, during which three defendants namely Nguyen Van Hai, Phan Thanh Hai, and Ta Phong Tan, were sentenced to 4-12 years in prison on the charge of “conducting propaganda against the State of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam”.
Like in other nations, any violations of law are dealt with according to the Vietnamese law and international laws on human rights, including the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights.
The trial was conducted in an open manner and in accordance with the Vietnamese law, Nghi stressed.
